New Rain Bird Battery-Operated
 Remote Systems.

Rainbird Sales, Inc., has introduced two new battery-operated systems – the RMX and RM – for efficient remote activation and sequencing of irrigation controllers.  Both new products feature handheld transmitters with a choice of multi-function keypad (RMX) or one button sequencing operation (RM).  They are designed to help contractors and operators save tie during new system walk-thru and checkout as well as to simplify maintenance and winterization.  In addition, the RM has homeowner application for spot watering and control in emergency situations. They'll add convenience to the remote operation of irrigation controllers.

According to Miguel Lackenbacher, product manager for Rain bird sales, inc.  The time required to move to and from an irrigation control system represents a hidden but significant cost factor.

RM-1 provides a pre-programmed one button transmitter (RM-1T) which enables the operator to sequence through all watering stations and to terminate any watering or program in progress using the “Quick Stop” feature.  This transmitter can also be used in conjunction with the RMX-1.  The RM-1T uses two 3-volt lithium batteries with an average life of three years.

Both systems can be installed quickly in the field.  Reliable operation is assured by Rain Birds STX protocol, which ensures command recognition and virtually eliminates conflict or compromise from other signals.

These new remote systems can help eliminate much of that expense.  From anywhere on the site they can handle operations that would otherwise require presence at the controller.  This includes startup, systematic flushing, customer demonstration prior to sign-off, sequencing for maintenance and adjustment as well as spot watering.

Both new Rain Bird Systems utilizes receivers, which install quickly on any Rainbird remote compatible controller (with connectors for the remote system receiver) and provide reception ranges up to 700 feet (213 meters).

RMX-1 includes a palm-size transmitter with a multi-function keypad (RMX-1T) allowing the operator to:

  • Start and advance through all watering stations using One-Button sequencing

  • Set station remote watering times up to 99 minutes.

  • Start or stop any station or program

  • Manually advance through any active programs.

  • Terminate any active irrigation using the “quick stop” feature.  The RMX-1T used a 9-volt battery with an average life of two years.
